How to Prepare
-
Try not to say anything to your children that will make them believe this session is a chore.
Don’t say things like …
“As soon as we’re done with our photos, we can have ice cream.”
“We will be done with these very soon.”
“The quicker you smile the quicker this is over.”
“Cooperate and listen to the photographer.”
Making them believe that our session is going to be dreadful, boring or a favor for mom and dad Is a big no-no.
-
Get them excited.
Try saying things like …
“Tonight is a very special night, our family gets to go exploring on the beach (or somewhere new!)
“Let’s make some very special photos of our family and we will let you choose which ones to put In a frame or send to grandma!”
“Let’s show our friend Kimber how handsome we look or how pretty our dress is!”
The session will be more fun and successful if you change their mindset into believing the family has something exciting planned rather than it being a drag.
-
Your session is only for a short period, use this time to ignore the laundry, chores or work you’re stressing about and be present in the moment. Have fun, let loose, run around, give hugs, sweep them off their feet, tickle them, tackle them - whatever you do, forget everything else and have fun.
-
… I am not above bribes. They can work wonders but I do highly suggest using them as a last resort.
